Between August 14, 2023 and September 2, 2023, I thruhiked the John Muir Trail (211 official miles and around 230 miles overall) with my brother. Photographs are from Yosemite National Park, John Muir and Ansel Adams Wildernesses, Devils Postpile National Monument, Kings Canyon National Park, and Sequoia National Park. The route included climbing the chains of Half Dome, eight named passes, and culminated by summiting Mt. Whitney (the tallest peak in the lower 48 states).
Of note, we were on trail during Hurricane Hilary, causing not insignificant effect. We bypassed the destroyed San Joaquin Bridge via the “up and over” offtrail bypass, featuring a 1,700+ ft climb averaging nearly 40% grade.
